A bricked-up access to Canterbury East railway station is being re-opened this week following an outcry by residents.

In January, rail firm Southeastern removed a Victorian kissing gate on a path linking Rhodaus Close and Lansdown Road, ruling that it posed a threat to public safety.

But after widespread criticism, the rail firm has agreed to open up the access again, but without the gate, which has since been disposed of.
