A for­mer world cham­pion boxer and two stand-up comics are set to re­ceive hon­orary de­grees from the Univer­sity of Kent.

Barry Mcguigan MBE, Mark Steel and Phill Jupi­tus will be given the ac­co­lade at Can­ter­bury Cathe­dral in July.

Re­tired Mcguigan, who lives in Dar­gate, is a for­mer feath­er­weight cham­pion of the world and cur­rent president of the Pro­fes­sional Boxing As­so­ci­a­tion.

The Ir­ish­man also man­ages for­mer WBA feath­er­weight cham­pion Carl Framp­ton.

Steel is a stand-up co­me­dian, broad­caster, newspaper colum­nist and au­thor. He ap­pears reg­u­larly on ra­dio and tele­vi­sion shows.

Jupi­tus is also a stand- up comic, as well as an ac­tor and per­for­mance poet.

He was a team cap­tain on BBC Two’s pop­u­lar mu­sic quiz Never Mind the Buz­zcocks from its in­cep­tion in 1996 un­til it fin­ished in 2015.

He ap­pears on sev­eral other TV panel shows, in­clud­ing QI.

The full list of re­cip­i­ents will be an­nounced next month.
