A good turnout saw 16 Heron Angling Society members head to Deal for the Jackson Cup on Saturday night. Fishing uptide and virtually all in darkness, the event was promising of good results, until the wind had its say. A staunch 20mph north easterly was prevalent for the whole competition and made things difficult. Nonetheless, 13 competitors brought fish to the scales, comprising whiting and dogfish. Simon Stephenson found the best of the numbers from the Walmer end with 10 fish weighing 10lb 14.4oz for the win while newcomer Ronnie Cimino came second with seven fish for 6lb 8.2oz from the golf course and won the heaviest fish pool with a specimen dogfish of 2lb 2oz. D. Neiles was third with six fish weighing 5lb 14.6oz from Deal main beach. This Sunday, The Herne Bay Angling Association are boat fishing for the Edwards Cup from 8am–2pm.
