Hogben spearheads charge

Peter Hogben finished runner-up in the 34th annual Folkestone 10-mile road race on Good Friday and in doing so helped Canterbury Harriers to the team prize. Hogben crossed the line in 57minutes 40seconds – a minute and 10 seconds adrift of winner Niall Stewart (Medway & Maidstone), who clocked 56.30. Alex Horsley (1: 01.47) was fourth and leading male vet- 40 in a personal best and he and Hogben were joined in the winning team by David Bowden, who was also third male vet 50 in 1: 05.47. PBS were also gained by Fiona Tester (1:13.06), Kieran Jessup (1: 25.31) and Julie Bradford (1: 30.55).

Veteran athlete Doug Lucas launched his summer season with races over 100m and 200m in the Crawley Open. The M65 age group runner from Canterbury, who competes for Cambridge Harriers, recorded a time of 13.88 for the shorter distance and 28.09 for the 200m. Lucas admitted he was delighted with his times and hopes to tackle a few 400m races as the season progresses.
