All aboard for classic coming-of-age story

-

Classic children’s novel The Railway Children will be brought to life on the Marlowe stage next month.

The coming-of-age story follows the lives of Roberta, Peter and Phyllis, whose lives are turned upside down when their father mysteriously disappears with two strangers one evening.

Forced to leave the comforts of their privileged London life in exchange for a simple existence in the depths of the Yorkshire countryside, this fractured family soon discover new friendships and an unexpected secret that will change their lives forever.

The book, written in 1906 by Edith Nesbit, was adapted for the screen for the 1970 film version directed by Lionel Jeffries.

The stage production will be at the Marlowe from Tuesday, August 15, to Saturday, August 19, with matinee performances at 2pm and 7pm on the Thursday and Saturday.

Tickets cost from £22.25 to £33.25 from the Marlowe box office. Call 01227 787787 to book or visit www.marlowetheatre. com.
