In the final of the Canterbury & District Bat & Trap League’s Festival Cup, the Kestrels beat Smugglers B 2-1. Martyn Crocker amassed 27 runs and took five traps along with team-mate Tom Hibbert for the Smugglers but Kestrels’ Colin Burden took six traps and Anthony Burden rattled up 33 to steer the Kestrels to victory and into the Invicta Cup. In the first leg of the Invicta Cup clash against Medway’s Warren Wood, the Kestrels went down 3-2. In the Charles Skam Cup quarter-finals, 2015 winners Artichoke A were beaten by Faversham Town FC by the unusual scoreline of 1-0. They tied the second leg, then drew the bowl out 2-2. Luke Allchin hit 33 runs in the first leg and Steve Coleman took five traps as they inflicted the most damage on the Choke. Catholic Club had Pam Watson to thank as she bowled out three of the Artichoke B side as they won 2-0 in Chartham. Dover Castle’s Lee Rigden hit an impressive 30 runs as they knocked out the Gentil Knyght C 2-1 while Golden Lion B beat the Two Brothers 2-1 to complete the semi-final picture. In the Charles Skam Plate first round, Division 3 side Freewheel won 2-0 at Castle A. Holders Littlebour­ne Rec moved into the next round after a 2-0 away win at the Castle B while Gentil Knyght B won 2-0 at the White Horse thanks to Steve Smith’s 15 and Andy Dixon’s 14 as they knocked out the Dove Inn A. Red Lion B and Huntsman and Horn both won 2-0 against the Two Brewers A and the Golden Lion C respective­ly while Golden Lion A, Evenhill Crusaders B and Market Inn A all won by walkover.

In the Ladies League, teams competed in the second round of the Cackett Cup. Red Lion B beat Artichoke 2-1 with Dee Leavesley taking three traps for the winners while Tracy Mackenzie did the same for Choke. Herne Bay Catholic Club lost 2-1 at home to Castle A with Lauren Mewett scoring 24 runs in the third leg and Debbie Higgins taking three traps for the winners. Four traps each from Cheryl Collier and Nikki Sillence helped Kings Head B to a 2-1 win against Golden Oldies while Golden Lion Ladies beat Golden Lionesses 2-0. This week also saw the new Fours competitio­n taking place at the Golden Lion in memory of Teresa Moon from the Market Inn. It was Golden Lion ladies and Herne Bay Catholic Club who go forward to play each other on Finals night in September.
