City council spokesman Rob Davies said: “Individual planning applications have to be considered on their merits.
“When considering planning applications for development which would involve an increased use of the highway network, we work closely with the county council as the local highways authority.
“The recently-adopted Local Plan sets out where new development will be located within the district. The Canterbury District Transport Strategy 2014-31, which we adopted last month, outlines our vision for the A28 Wincheap corridor. Our planners and our transport experts place a great deal of weight on both of these documents when making their recommendations.”
