Killer’s motive never established

Kentish Gazette Canterbury & District - - Dreadful Secret Of Reed Pond -

No clear motive or DNA evidence was ever discovered for the Chillenden attacks.

Michael Stone, 37, a heroin addict from Gillingham with convictions for burglary and violence, was convicted of the two murders and attempted murder in 1998.

He was given three life sentences, with a minimum of 25 years.

Stone has launched several attempts to be cleared – including a retrial – but he was reconvicted on the same evidence.

A recent television documentary about the case brought together several experts to review the evidence, whose conclusions cast doubt on the convictions.
