Hit-and-run vic­tim named

A young man killed in a hit-and-run on the A2 near Can­ter­bury has been named as Univer­sity of Kent stu­dent Ibrahim Sheikh.

The body of the 22-year-old was dis­cov­ered ly­ing in the coast­bound car­riage­way near the BP garage shortly after 2am on Septem­ber 26.

Mr Sheikh, from Le­ices­ter, was study­ing so­ci­ol­ogy. He was pro­nounced dead at the scene by paramedics, with po­lice quickly es­tab­lish­ing he had been hit by a ve­hi­cle.

Of­fi­cers closed the sev­en­mile stretch from Bren­ley Cor­ner to Har­ble­down un­til 8am for spe­cial­ist of­fi­cers to ex­am­ine the scene.

The vic­tim’s fam­ily were in­formed of his death soon after the tragedy.

He has now been for­mally named by the coro­ner and an in­quest opened and ad­journed for fur­ther in­quiries.

The po­lice are con­tin­u­ing to ap­peal for any­one with in­for­ma­tion about the in­ci­dent and the death of Mr Sheikh to call 01622 798538, quot­ing AW-DW 216-17.
