Hunt consistency the key

The last of the major events in the ladies’ golfing calendar at Broome Park GC was the Autumn Meeting.
The morning round of a 18-hole medal competition resulted in the scratch prize being won by Sylvia Beacham (h13) with a gross 89.
First prize on handicap went to 23-handicapper Marilyn Hunt with a net 73, three better than runner-up Nieves Clark, playing off 18, with Annabel Fuller (h18) a further shot back in third.
The afternoon foursomes was won by Elaine Wilcox and Clark (both h18) with 19 points over nine holes.
The Thorough Trophy was presented to Hunt who scooped the top prize with an aggregate net 143 made up from the Spring Meeting – where she scored an impressive net 70 – plus the net 73 for the Autumn Meeting.
Prizes also were presented to the winners of the knockout competitions contested during the year.
The singles knockout trophy the Mallet Cup went to Sue Shepherd and the foursomes knockout trophy The Hurricane Cup was won by Wilcox and Clark. taking second place two points back. The new ladies winter tournament got underway at the weekend with 12 pairs taking to the course.
The first round was played as a betterball format with two teams coming in with 40 points.
Diane Florence and Maxine Field just edged out Lizza Berry and Jacqui Mount on countback. Robson made full use of his local knowledge by carding 42 points.
Ex- Chestfield member Ian Jackson was a point behind on 41.
Countback edged Antony Back into third just beating Andy Oxberry and Sue Jones, all on 35
The semi-final cup match was even tighter with Kev Mullins and Dave Gregory taking the tie to the last hole with Gregory just taking the first grand final spot 1-up.
Other winners included nearest the pins for Nigel Stevenson,. Steve Winder and Robert Impey with the 2s club going to Ian Jackson. .
