Skip­per He­len Fagg says de­spite Can­ter­bury Ladies slip­ping to the foot of the In­vestec Pre­mier Di­vi­sion, they are not far away from turn­ing the cor­ner.

Saturday’s 1-0 de­feat at Slough – se­cured by Izzy Tot­ten’s scrappy penalty cor­ner de­flec­tion just be­fore the hour – left the city club bot­tom with just one point from their opening three games.

Fagg said: “I don’t think we de­served to lose. We had most of the play, we en­tered their D a lot more than they did ours and dom­i­nated for long pe­ri­ods. We just didn’t con­vert our op­por­tu­ni­ties.

“If you don’t score, you don’t win games. They scored a for­tu­nate goal from a short cor­ner and that was enough.

“The re­sult was dis­ap­point­ing but our ac­tual per­for­mance was pretty good.
