WHO IS ANSON CHAN?
Chairman of the Bonds Group, an investment firm with £1bn worth of property and investments in Hong Kong, China, Canada, the US, the UK and south east Asia, he has been a high-flying figure in the world of finance for many years.
The Bonds Group was formed in the 1960s by his parents – philanthropists Dr Chan Shu Kui and Dr Anita Chan Lai-ling.
Before joining the family business both he and his siblings were sent abroad to study – with Mr Chan studying in North America. He worked for accountancy firm Ernst & Young before becoming a private equity fund manager at AIG.
He then held a succession of roles in major investment banks before taking over the family business in 2007 when his mother died.
He once said: “If it wasn’t for the family business, my dream job was to be a university professor following my father who had dedicated his life to education.”
