New help for ex-service personnel

Kentish Gazette Canterbury & District - - Royal Recognition -

There’s a new organisation in town with the aim of supporting ex-servicemen and women and their families.

People are familiar with the Royal British Legion and Help For Heroes, but the Veterans Association UK, which has been established in the north of the country since 2012, is only just moving into the South East.

Bob Brown is the chairman of the Kent branch.

He joined the Royal Artillery aged 16 and served for 16 years.

Mr Brown, 57, said: “At the moment I am working from home, but we are looking to open an office in the area.

“We are a holistic organisation run principally by veterans for veterans, but membership and voluntary help from civilians is of course welcome.”

The charity aims to help with housing, mental health and social welfare, which could include home modifications.

Mr Brown would love to hear from anyone able to offer suitable premises or who can offer other support.

He can be contacted weekdays, between 9.30am and 2.30pm, by calling 07488 235157.

Alternatively, email bob.
