Herne Bay SC took a squad of swimmers to attend Bromley SC’S Christmas Gold open meet at Medway Park. The squad included nine-yearolds Matthew Yates and Alyssa Maclachlan, both competing in their first competitive gala. Both had a successful gala, taking home two place medals – Maclachlan for 50m breaststroke and fly and Yates for 50m backstroke and freestyle. The more experienced swimmers also had a great meet with many top-three medals, plenty of place medals and several PBS. Cameron Fry, 19, was in excellent form, winning the 50m and 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle. He also finished second in the 50m butterfly. Ten-year-old Alyssa Kelly took home four winner’s medals for the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, while nine-year-old Fletcher Davy claimed first place in the 200m freestyle. James Page, 11, came first in both the 100m and 200m freestyle and picked up a silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 100m fly and 200m IM.
