Bay re­turn with im­pres­sive medal haul

Herne Bay SC took a squad of swim­mers to at­tend Brom­ley SC’S Christ­mas Gold open meet at Med­way Park. The squad in­cluded nine-yearolds Matthew Yates and Alyssa Maclach­lan, both com­pet­ing in their first com­pet­i­tive gala. Both had a suc­cess­ful gala, tak­ing home two place medals – Maclach­lan for 50m breast­stroke and fly and Yates for 50m back­stroke and freestyle. The more ex­pe­ri­enced swim­mers also had a great meet with many top-three medals, plenty of place medals and sev­eral PBS. Cameron Fry, 19, was in ex­cel­lent form, win­ning the 50m and 100m breast­stroke and 50m freestyle. He also fin­ished sec­ond in the 50m but­ter­fly. Ten-year-old Alyssa Kelly took home four win­ner’s medals for the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle, while nine-year-old Fletcher Davy claimed first place in the 200m freestyle. James Page, 11, came first in both the 100m and 200m freestyle and picked up a sil­ver in the 100m back­stroke and bronze in the 100m fly and 200m IM. Mar­cus Cross­man, 10, won the 400m freestyle, came sec­ond in the 100m and 200m back­stroke, while fin­ish­ing third in the 100m and 200m freestyle. Bay’s next meet will be the Ice­breaker gala on Satur­day, Jan­uary 6 – the last chance for swim­mers to qual­ify for the Kent County Cham­pi­onships which will start later that month.
