This year is the 50th anniversary of speedway coming to Canterbury and a reunion dinner has been arranged to mark the occasion. Speedway started at the now demolished Kingsmead Stadium on May 18, 1968, when Canterbury Crusaders hosted Belle Vue Babes. The reunion event will be held at the current home of Kent speedway, Central Park Stadium, Sittingbourne, on May 19, from 7pm. All ex-riders who wore the famous crossed swords race-jacket of the two-time Division 2/National League champions, the Canterbury Crusaders, between 1968 and 1987, have been invited. Ex-riders are asked to contact organiser Dick Jarvis (07538 112606) to let him know they’re coming and admission is free for ex-riders and their ‘plus ones’. There will be memorabilia on display and plenty of memories to share among riders and Crusaders fans alike. Tickets are £15, which includes a buffet.
