■ Re­leased in 1990, Slay­erõs fifth al­bum con­tin­ued the neat trick theyõd mas­tered on the pre­ced­ing South Of Heaven Ð that be­ing the ad­di­tion of mid-tempo chug, equally as creepy as the Hunt­ing­ton Park band sounded flail­ing at 300mph. Case in point: Dead Skin Mask, a song con­cern­ing the no­to­ri­ous killer and body snatcher Ed Gein, may well be the most evil theyõve ever sounded. Not to say they slowed right down. Opener War En­sem­ble cap­tured the stress and chaos of war­fare so per­fectly, the U.S. Army used it to psych up its troops.
