SKINDRED’S BENJI WEBBE

THE SKINDRED FRONTMAN TALKS TO KERRANG! AFTER BEING SLASHED IN THE NECK ON A NIGHT OUT…

Kerrang! (UK) - - News -

ON FRIDAY January 29, Skindred frontman and Kerrang! Awards host Benji Webbe was attacked whilst on his way home from a night out in Newport.

The alleged attackers – who slashed him in the throat, leaving him needing 24 stitches – were two women. One, aged 40, has been arrested for assault, and another, 29, has been arrested for affray and criminal damage.

With the pair currently on police bail, we caught up with Benji to see how he’s doing…

HOW ARE YOU FEELING TODAY?

“A bit shaken up, but that’s to be expected. It’s stopped now, but yesterday when I spoke I could see the stitches opening, and I could see the inside of the flesh – which was freaking me right out.”

HOW HAS THE PAST WEEK AND A HALF’S RECOVERY BEEN? HAS IT BEEN FRUSTRATING HAVING TO REST UP AT HOME?

“The thing is, I was doing so well at the gym – I was going daily, but because of the sweat and needing to not get the blood pressure pumping, I can’t go at the moment! And every friendly bastard keeps bringing me pasties and cakes ( laughs)!”

ARE YOU CURRENTLY TAKING PAINKILLERS? WILL THIS AFFECT ANY OF SKINDRED’S PLANS FOR THE YEAR?

“Yeah, and I’ve had to postpone stuff I had going on this week because I’m trying not to push my voice, but I’m still looking forward to rocking the summer festivals and preaching the word of unity and rock’n’roll.”

TWELVE DAYS ON, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE INCIDENT, AND THAT IT HAPPENED IN YOUR HOMETOWN?

“It’s just crazy, man, I never expected something like that to happen. The funny thing is, the first single off [2015 album] Volume is called Under Attack ( laughs)! I’ve travelled the world a lot – it’s ironic that it happened in my hometown.”
