CRAZY REINDEER ARENA LAPLAND

ALRIGHT, KOTA! THIS ALL SOUNDS VERY FUN – CAN YOU TELL US WHAT THE CRAZY REINDEER ARENA IS LIKE INSIDE?
“You could say that it is pretty big – at least, on our scale! It holds about 1,000 to 2,000 people, with a large dance floor right in front of the stage, but there is also a lot of room around the mixing booth and near the bars, plus the balcony that goes around the dance floor.when it comes to the décor there is a really nice old-timey feeling there – it is almost like entering an enormous two-storey cabin in the woods, complete with its own stage and a couple of bars. Naturally there are some modern aspects to the interior, but all in all it’s in good taste, keeping a main focus on the excess of timber and reindeer horns.”
AND WHAT KIND OF BANDS WOULD YOU NORMALLY FIND PLAYING HERE?
“I’d say that pretty much every single one of Finland’s bands from medium to huge [Children Of Bodom, Nightwish] has played the Hullu Poro, regardless of genre. Since it is mostly a holiday season resort, there’s people visiting from all over Finland, not just from the local region.also, for that exact same reason, I’d say that if your band is too underground, you are not going to play there; for example Korpiklaani are big enough to get on their stage, but I doubt that we’ll be seeing any black metal gigs here any time soon! It’s the kind of place that, sadly, has to follow trends.”
SO WHAT IS IT LIKE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR – ARE THERE ANY OTHER BIG EVENTS?
“Well, it’s mostly a seasonal venue with an obvious emphasis on the winter holidays. It’s part of a bigger resort complex when there are skiers and snowboarders, so there are probably some gigs and entertainment – comedy nights and whatnot.the kids get their Santa shows and the adults their preferred entertainment. there’ s even some kind of adult entertainment event coming up with promises of ‘sex and action’ – whatever the hell that is…”
UM, OKAY! IS LAPLAND THE MOST KERRISTMASSY PLACE TO LIVE IN THE WORLD… IT MUST FEEL PRETTY DAMN FESTIVE EVERY DAY OUT THERE, SURELY?
“To be honest with you, yes it does! That’s actually one of the reasons why I eventually relocated myself a little bit more to the south of Lapland. I’m not much of a Christmassy person myself, but I can imagine someone who is into it more would enjoy themselves quite a bit. During the summer it winds down because, of course, that’s when Santa takes his yearly vacation.”
Giving the Holiday Inn a run for its money…
Santa is in the house for a mosh!
