HARTFORD HEARTBREAKERS PROVE THEMSELVES JUST AS EMO AS YOU’D THINK

■ DROPPING THREE albums in as many years, Sorority Noise sure love wallowing in their own bittersweet melancholy. But they might just love marinating in other bands’ even more. From the arch intelligence of The Front Bottoms’ playful self-deprecation to the shrug-shouldered melody of Modern Baseball, You’re Not As… finds the Connecticut quartet nodding hard to a whole host of heroes.there’s still a bright-burning sense of self-belief, mind. Mining a darker lyrical vein, individualist themes of bereavement and isolation seep through, from the creeping regret of First Letter From St. Sean to the surging catharsis of Disappeared. It’s a beautiful, bruised patchwork: all fragile optimism and ebbing regret. DOWNLOAD: No Halo. FOR FANS OF: Modern Baseball, Moose Blood, the Front Bottoms. SAM LAW
