UNRESTRAINED AMBITION RAISES THE FLAG FOR BRIT METAL NEWCOMERS

■ WHEN YOU’VE got as much talent and energy as The Raven Age, marshalling it together can be like getting puppies to sit still for a photo. Promised Land is an early highlight here that sets the scene for what’s to come, the peak of which is probably the multi-layered Salem’s Fate.as cohesive and well-drilled as their heroes in Trivium and Killswitch Engage, the Raven Age sound like they’ve been together for decades.the only evidence of their inexperience is in the length of the songs: most last well over six minutes, and nearly all would have sounded better pared down. If this band were a bodybuilder it could consider itself suitably bulked – the next stage is to shred. DOWNLOAD: Salem’s Fate. FOR FANS OF: Trivium, Killswitch Engage. STEVE BEEBEE
