ALL ABOARD THE SWEDISH METAL EXPRESS! FIRST STOP: TOTAL DESTRUCTION

■ ‘been AWAKE for days on my way to hell,’ is as fitting an opening declaration as any for Defcon Zero. Death, destruction, devastation – this is the scenery that litters Defcon Zero’s roadside, gazed at through wearied eyes. It’s a shame, then, that this apocalyptic abandon isn’t channelled into the music, as the swedish metallers’ fourth album reverts to Disturbed-esque business as usual. Day Of Judgement attempts pumping, sky-scraping balladry, but ends up as hollow as an already eaten donut. but if bone-crunching riffs are your thing, then business is good, with DRF laying on the high octane riffola. Defcon Zero won’t placate your apocalyptic conspiracy theorists, but it will satisfy your inner-pit troll. DOWNLOAD: DRF. FOR FANS OF: Disturbed, Machine head.
