THE INSIDER ANDY HULL
Andy, This is THE FIRST RECORD you’ve WRITTEN since your DAUGHTER WAS BORN. HOW BIG OF An IMPACT DID THAT HAVE On it?
“This wouldn’t be the same record without her. The whole thing is a love letter to her, and to family. When she was born, the centre of my universe shifted. She’s actually on the record a bunch, too, which is really cool.”
THE ALBUM TITLE CHANGED, RIGHT? it WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED… er…
“There’s Nothing I’ve Got When I Die That I Keep. Yeah, the reason you couldn’t recall it is exactly why we changed it. Literally no-one could remember it – not even me, and I wrote it! My friend Dustin [Kensrue] from Thrice actually helped pick the new title.”
is it True One OF THE songs WAS RECORDED WHILE you Were in THE BATH?
“Yeah, The Parts. We all stayed up one night, drinking bourbon until 3:30am.when I woke up at home that morning, I wasn’t in the mood to do any more guitar overdubs or go on a quest for keyboard sounds, so we did a song that was just me and a guitar. I knew from writing a bunch of songs in my bathroom over the years that it had great acoustics, so I just stood in the bathtub and sang!”
