hey, wednesday! you’re coming Back for halloween on what has to BE your millionth uk tour – is it safe to say you like Playing over here?

WEDNESDAY 13 (VOCALS/GUITAR):“YEAH, man! It’s my home away from home. It also seems like every time Halloween rolls around I end up in the UK – or near to there – and it’s always a good time. I feel like the Santa Claus of Halloween, the way I come around like that!”

yeah, that’s accurate. have you UPPED the theatrics for this show?

“Every time we come back I try to do something better than the last time. I’m never satisfied, and I wanted to step it up even more this time. So, it’s a full-on theatrical thing, it’s an hour-and-a-half set now, there are costume changes and masks – everything! It’s my favourite show that I’ve ever put together.”

is that something that runs smoothly, or does it get a little Bit nervewracking By the End of the show?

“It keeps me on edge every night, because I never know if something – or everything – is going to go wrong! We were in New York City recently and we had to play this small room with the same show, and somehow we pulled it off. I really had no space to change because I literally had, like, a phone booth to do it in, and it was akin to Superman, with clothes flying off and new ones going on every three songs! It was rough, but we pulled it off, and I think fans will see that we went out of our way to put on a special show for them, no matter what size the venue is.”

given you Play Every halloween, what’s BEEN your favourite such show?

“I started doing some anniversary shows for the first record [Transylvania 90210: Songs Of Death, Dying, and The Dead], which I did in its entirety, twice, and it was really cool. One of my favourite ones was when we headlined the [London] Astoria before it was demolished, and one of my favourite bands of all time – Hanoi Rocks – were at the show. I couldn’t believe they were there; I would listen to them going to school, and to have them come see me when I had managed to headline and sell out that venue was on a level all of its own.”

what about a Bad halloween show – Ever Played one of those?

“I think it’s always been a favourite, even if we had some technical difficulties. I think it’s actually pretty hard for us to fuck up on Halloween (laughs)! I can’t recall any shows that have been a train wreck.”

in all your travels, have you Played any venues that are allegedly haunted?

“Yes, many! Probably too many to name. Several years ago there was one somewhere near Kansas. Someone told us about this Mafia-type group who had supposedly killed 15 people in the basement, and it just had a vibe to it that was not good. I’m usually fine with that stuff, but I didn’t want to go down there, and then I did and immediately wanted to leave.”

EEEEESH. finally, what’s coming up for the rest of the year?

“This year’s been non-stop! I’ve been touring since January and have been home three months so far.we get home November 16, and we’re taking some time off for the holidays and then we’re back out on the road in February.then in March there will probably be another U.S. run – maybe a support slot or something.there’ll be headline runs, too, but I’d really like to get in front of some different audiences and show them what we have… And no doubt I’ll be back over to the UK. I can’t break tradition, after all!”
