BARELY ALIVE (SHARPTONE) KK POST-HARDCORE NEWCOMERS JOIN THE DOTS BUT CAN’T FIND THEIR PAINT POTS

■ WE’VE ALL been there. You’ve followed the recipe but for some reason the thing that comes out of the oven doesn’t smell right.there’s no doubting that U.S. quintet Savage Hands have the talent to mount an assault on the senses sometime in the future – but this introductory, seven-song EP isn’t it. Certainly it has clarity and pace, and is enhanced slightly by electronic infusions and (rather more so) by Mike Garrow’s mountain-conquering vocals – but it’s in the writing that it fails. Once you’ve got over the power of opener RED’S attack, you’re left searching for something fresh, something that’s not generic. Barely Alive isn’t bad for a first trip, but Savage Hands will need to reach higher to pull us in. DOWNLOAD: RED. FOR FANS OF: Crown The Empire, FFAF.
