PIECE BY PEACE…

GRETA VAN FLEET take us inside their highly-anticipated debut, ANTHEM OF THE PEACEFUL ARMY…

Kerrang! (UK) - - Instant Expert -

1 THE RECORD PORTRAYS MANY POSITIVE MESSAGES

“We’re all joined together by one common goal: the power of music,” the Michigan group tell K! of the title of their debut album. “A simple lyric to unite us all. We are all a part of the ‘peaceful army’, and our hope is that this album conveys a message of peace, love and unity, and elements of human nature.”

2 IT’S THEIR FIRST EVER FULLLENGTH EFFORT

“We previously released an EP with four songs, then a double EP with an additional four songs,” they explain. “This release is a true reflection of a complete thought. For the past seven years of the existence of this band, our goal was to release a full-length album, and now we’ve been given the opportunity to do so!”

3 IT CONTAINS BOTH OLD AND NEW MATERIAL

“A few songs are ones we’ve been playing on tour. For example, You’re The One was written quite a while ago, but Brave New World was written in the studio during the recording of the album. We tracked in one room to create as much of a live setting as possible. The songs took on new lives as we played them.”

4 THEIR PRODUCERS HAVE BEEN WITH THE BAND FROM THE START

“Marlon Young, Al Sutton, and Herschel Boone helped produce our first EP, double EP and our fulllength. We got into Al’s studio, Rustbelt Studios, about three years ago and the connection was apparent very early on. He was able to help us translate what we were musically. There’s a certain symmetry between us.”

5 THERE ARE MULTIPLE THEMES THROUGHOUT THE ALBUM

“Human nature, lessons of history, where we’ve been and where we’re going are themes we’ve strived to convey. There’s an overlying theme of evolution throughout Age Of Man, whereas The New Day displays how anything can change in an instant.”

6 AND THEY SPENT A LOT OF TIME WRITING IN ISOLATION

“We wrote for a week in a cabin out in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Not really having the ability to leave allowed us to focus on writing without any time or physical restrictions. When you have total isolation, it breeds creative ambitions.” ANTHEM OF THE PEACEFUL ARMY IS DUE OUT October 19 via Virgin EMI/LAVA Records
