WITH ITS alu­minium chas­sis, the fourth gen­er­a­tion Range Rover weighs in 420 kg lighter than its pre­de­ces­sor and, cou­pled with ef­fi­cient new diesel en­gines, it’s more fru­gal than any pre­vi­ous Range Rover. It’s all com­par­a­tive though… Tak­ing de­pre­ci­a­tion into ac­count, it will be sev­eral years be­fore sec­ond­hand mod­els of­fer eco­nom­i­cal mo­tor­ing for all but the well-heeled – and even then they'll be ex­pen­sive to run. At present, val­ues hold­ing well. BUYER’S TIP: A lot of car – for a lot of money. SPEC­I­FI­CA­TIONS 3-litre V6 (258 bhp) and 4.4-litre V8 (339 bhp) turbo-diesel en­gines; su­per­charged 5-litre V8 petrol (510 bhp). Eight-speed au­to­matic gear­box.
