Buying delights

- Patrick Cruywagen, @busheditor

BUYING a Land Rover is without a doubt the most orgasmic experience possible for the true Land Rover enthusiast. Like all of your Christmases have come at once. We literally explode with joy once the money has been handed over and the deal has been concluded. And it applies to the purchase of any Land Rover. It can be one that you drove past every day for several years on the way to work and every time you knocked on the door the owner said it was not for sale, but then finally says it is, and you have been given first refusal. Or it could be a Land Rover that you or your family have a special connection with? Maybe it used to belong to your dad or your nan taught you to drive in it? Or it could be your first-ever Land Rover and you have spent the last few years saving up for it. It doesn’t matter. The anticipation and thrill of buying and owning a green oval badged 4x4 is still the same. And if you’re currently looking then read on...

Issues featuring dedicated buying guides are always my favourites; not only do they traditionally sell well, but they are also a great opportunity to research what the market is up to. Tom Barnard is our buying guide guru for this issue; he writes buyers guides for our former sister title Auto Express and he has owned a few Land Rovers in his lifetime – his current ride is a Discovery 4. We’ve given Tom a budget of £7500 and asked him to pick his top 10 best buys within that budget. Obviously one can get some Land Rovers for well under that figure. Turn to page 34 to find out more.

Then, I would just like to take this opportunity to thank each and every advertiser and reader for their support during 2020. It has been a year like no other and if you lost someone to Covid-19 I would like to offer you our deepest condolences. I am not going to make predictions about what 2021 has in store for us but I do hope that we bump into each other on a greenlane or dare I say at a show. Take care.
