• Small sticks of hazel or willow, approximately pencil thickness • Secateurs

• Large tin with lid, such as a biscuit tin, or a golden syrup tin if making a smaller batch

• Nail or screwdriver to punch a small hole in the tin lid

• Small plug to fit inside the hole, such as a stick

• Tongs or heatproof gloves
