Rain­bow flags flew acrossWest Dun­bar­ton­shire to mark the start of Les­bian, Gay, Bi­sex­ual and Trans­gen­der (LGBT) His­tory Month.

Pupils from Dum­bar­ton Academy’s LGBTI Group and mem­bers ofWest Dun­bar­ton­shire Fu­sionYouth Group were at the coun­cil of­fices in Dum­bar­ton to raise the Rain­bow Flag.

They were joined by Provost Dou­glas McAl­lis­ter, coun­cil em­ploy­ees and Po­lice Scot­land.

Dur­ing the month a num­ber of events will be held through­out West Dun­bar­ton­shire.

Li­braries will fea­ture dis­plays of LGBT books and films will be shown in the main li­braries of Dum­bar­ton, Cly­de­bank and Alexan­dria.

Pupils from both theVale of Leven Academy and Dum­bar­ton Academy have worked with their school li­brary staff to present dis­plays of LGBT books.

The coun­cil’sTi­tan Crane was lit the colours of the rain­bow.

Provost Dou­glas McAl­lis­ter said:“Rais­ing the flag reaf­firms the coun­cil’s com­mit­ment of pro­mot­ing equal­ity and di­ver­sity.

“Ev­ery­one de­serves to be treated with dig­nity and re­spect, re­gard­less of their sex­ual ori­en­ta­tion.”
