Major disruption after bridge crash
Motorists and train passengers faced disruption on Sunday after a car collided with a railway bridge in Alexandria.
The driver of the car which crashed on Main Street in Alexandria, close to theVale of Leven Academy, is believed to be a friend of Liam Coyle who was travelling to the scene of his fatal crash at the time.
Inspector Ian Hutchison of Alexandria Police Office said:“A 25-year-old from Alexandria will be reported for dangerous driving following a road traffic incident on Main Street in Alexandria opposite the high school at 9.20am on Sunday.”
There was disruption to train services between Dumbarton Central and Balloch until the evening due to the bridge being struck.
ScotRail said on Sunday:“A road vehicle has struck a railway bridge and, for safety reasons, we’ve made the decision to close the line between Dalreoch and Balloch.We’ve got bridge examination staff on site making an initial assessment of the damage to the bridge.
“Services going to Balloch terminated at Dumbarton Central.”
A replacement bus was provided for passengers using the service.
