Ma­jor dis­rup­tion af­ter bridge crash

Mo­torists and train pas­sen­gers faced dis­rup­tion on Sun­day af­ter a car col­lided with a rail­way bridge in Alexan­dria.

The driver of the car which crashed on Main Street in Alexan­dria, close to theVale of Leven Academy, is be­lieved to be a friend of Liam Coyle who was trav­el­ling to the scene of his fa­tal crash at the time.

In­spec­tor Ian Hutchi­son of Alexan­dria Po­lice Of­fice said:“A 25-year-old from Alexan­dria will be re­ported for dan­ger­ous driv­ing fol­low­ing a road traf­fic in­ci­dent on Main Street in Alexan­dria op­po­site the high school at 9.20am on Sun­day.”

There was dis­rup­tion to train ser­vices be­tween Dum­bar­ton Cen­tral and Bal­loch un­til the evening due to the bridge be­ing struck.

ScotRail said on Sun­day:“A road ve­hi­cle has struck a rail­way bridge and, for safety rea­sons, we’ve made the de­ci­sion to close the line be­tween Dal­re­och and Bal­loch.We’ve got bridge ex­am­i­na­tion staff on site mak­ing an ini­tial as­sess­ment of the dam­age to the bridge.

“Ser­vices go­ing to Bal­loch ter­mi­nated at Dum­bar­ton Cen­tral.”

A re­place­ment bus was pro­vided for pas­sen­gers us­ing the ser­vice.
