Jailed for stealing tools
A man who stole tools from three separate cars after driving while banned and without insurance has been jailed for almost three years.
“Persistent thief”Malcolm Hutcheon, 48, whose address was given as Greenock Prison, was locked up by SheriffWilliam Gallacher last week for the crimes he admitted.
These included forcing open a car and stealing tools in Admiralty Gardens, Old Kilpatrick in October 2016 and February this year as well as driving while disqualified and without insurance in October 2016 as he was heading to Admiralty Gardens.
Hutcheon’s defence lawyer told the court he has an extensive record involving similar crimes.
He added:“He has had an addiction problem over the years. He managed to address that in 2014 and was abstinent for a period of two years. He relapsed in October last year and became involved in these offences.
“It’s clear that he would benefit from an alternative to custody in the respect of a drug treatment and testing order.”
Locking him up for 33 months and banning him from driving for five years, Sheriff William Gallacher said: “You’re a persistent thief and have been over many years.
“You’ve had opportunities in the past of doing other things and you have not done that. The offences you committed were thought about, planned, organised.
“You took yourself to an environment where you could get access to other people’s property. You did that by driving a vehicle you were disqualified from driving.”
