Drivers in danger of 20-mile detour
Confusion warning as A82 pothole work continues
Drivers could wind up facing an unnecessary 20-mile diversion to travel five miles from Milton to Clydebank as roadworks continue on the A82 this week.
The road between Dunglass Roundabout and Dalnottar will be closed for overnight resurfacing works until this Friday, with the winding diversion through parts of Bearsden and Milngavie in place to accommodate high-sided vehicles.
While most vehicles can travel through Bowling and Old Kilpatrick in order to reach Clydebank, there will only be one diversion signposted, leaving drivers at risk of following the long route.
Scotland Transerv said the reason for the diversion is that the width of the A82 makes it impossible to carry out this work safely without closing the southbound carriageway.
The £167,000 project is part of a series of works on the A82, which has already seen resurfacing take place from Garshake Road to Dunglass Roundabout.
It is being carried out by Scotland TranServ to tackle issues with potholes over a 2km stretch of the southbound carriageway.
The diversions will be in place from 8pm each night and lifted at 6am the following morning.
Scotland TranServ’s network area manager Brendan O’Sullivan said: “This is a significant stretch of the A82, connecting Dumbarton and Loch Lomond to Glasgow and Clydebank.
“Working in liaison with Police Scotland, local authorities and key stakeholders, we’ve scheduled these works to cause minimal impact on the local community and business.
“Working outwith peak travel periods will allow us to deliver this programme quickly and efficiently as possible.”
The diversion route is: • Travel northbound on the A82 trunk road to Stoneymollan roundabout. • Turn right on to the A811 and travel to the A809. • Turn right on to the A809 Stockiemuir Road • In Milngavie turn right on to the B8050 Baljaffray Road. • Continue on the B8050 to the A810 • Turn right on to the A810 Duntocher Road to Hardgate roundabout. • At Hardgate roundabout turn left on to the A8014 to Kilbowie Roundabout. • At Kilbowie roundabout turn right on to the A82 northbound carriageway.
