The Scottish SPCA celebrated their 10th annual Scottish Animal Week culminating with a community open day at their centre in Dumbarton last month.

Dumbarton Acoustic Music Night
Dumbarton Acoustic Music Night will be holding its next music night at St Augustine’s Church on Friday, October 13. Doors open at 7pm with a start time of 7.30pm finishing at 10.30pm. Cost is £5 entry, bring your own bottle and glass and enjoy a wonderful night of varied music. This month, Katee Kross, along with Ian and Val Waldman, The Midgies, Tripe and Onions, Joe Plunkett and Friend performing on the night. Money raised from the past few shows will be donated to a local charity. Dumbarton Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre manager Joe McDade said:“The open day was a huge success.
“We raised a fantastic £900 on the day.
“We are so grateful for all the support, from donations of raffle prizes to those who made baked goods to sell.
“During the day we had a raffle and tombola, and plenty of stalls - with some Christmas goodies for good measure!”
The organisation are self-funding. Riverside Church’s Tuesday Lunches resumed yesterday (Tueaday, October 3) and continue every Tuesday until December 19.
A Christmas fayre will take place at Dumbarton Masonic Hall on November 4 from 11am until 3pm. Stalls selling a number of items will be on display, including jewellery, handbags and purses, books and craft stalls. There will also be tombola, face painting and home baking. All proceeds raised from the event will be donated to the Scottish Cot Death Trust. Former pupils from the Vale of Leven Academy class of 69 are being invited to attend a reunion on Saturday, October 7, at Vale of Leven Golf Club from 7.30pm. 1777 (Dumbarton) Squadron cadets are recruiting young people aged 13 to 17. There are a variety of activities for members to take part in, including flying, gliding, shooting, leadership and sports. The Armed Forces Veterans Association, Dumbarton, is open from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday at Dumbarton Central Station.
