Worlds of fan­tasy on Bal­loch shores

Thou­sands of comic fans are ex­pected to head to Loch Lomond Shores this week­end for the first ever Bal­loch Comic Con.

The iconic event - Comic Con takes place in venues all over the world at­tract­ing mil­lions of peo­ple - will cel­e­brate comics and fan­tasy char­ac­ters dur­ing a free two-day fes­ti­val.

It is al­ready gen­er­at­ing ex­cite­ment from comic fans in West Dun­bar­ton­shire and be­yond, with or­gan­is­ers say­ing they were “com­pletely taken aback” by the level of in­ter­est.

Traders and comic fans from all over Scot­land will be able to en­joy all things comic-re­lated this Satur­day and Sun­day, in­clud­ing buy­ing and sell­ing comics and graphic nov­els, ac­tion fig­ures and toys, as well as comic-in­spired fan art and home dec­o­ra­tions. Kids ac­tiv­i­ties will be part of the en­ter­tain­ment and there will be a bar for the adults.

Loch Lomond Shores man­ager Au­drey Reid said: “This is the first event of this kind in the area and we’ve been com­pletely taken aback by the level of in­ter­est in it.

“We can’t wait to see it and we’re par­tic­u­larly look­ing for­ward to see­ing cos­tume char­ac­ters down at the lochside.

“Loch Ness might have Nessie but Loch Lomond has su­per­heroes and Star Wars Stormtroop­ers.”

Event or­gan­iser Ian Bonar added: “This is the first time any­one’s brought Comic Con to Loch Lomond and we’re re­ally look­ing for­ward to it.

“There’s been a great re­sponse from comic fans, cos play­ers and fam­i­lies look­ing for a day out.

“We’re ex­pect­ing a good turnout. As well the other ac­tiv­i­ties, vis­i­tors will be able to try out a Sam­sung VR head­set and we’ll have the Scot­tish Im­pe­rial Squad and the Rebel Le­gion UK there for the week­end as well.”

Loch Lomond Comic Con takes place at Loch Lomond Shores on Oc­to­ber 7-8 from 11am un­til 5pm.
