The Vale Juniors were in action at the weekend as they made the trip to Fullerton Park to take on Vale of Clyde in the Central League.

It was a tough match for the Vale side, and a first half penalty and a second half goal were not enough to secure the points for the team, who lost out 4-2 to their almost namesake opponents.

The action started early for the visiting Vale, and on 13 minutes things looked to be going their way when Craig Cowan netted a penalty to put his side ahead.

It was end to end for the rest of the first half as both teams tried to find the net, but it was just two minutes into the second half that Allan MacPherson beat Clyde keeper Donald Scott to get the Vale’s second of the day.

Things continued to go in the Vale’s favour, but it was just after the hour that the Clyde goal onslaught began.

It was Njabulo Ndlovu who got the first of four goals past keeper Robert Tiropoulos, and within half an hour, three more followed through Alan Clarke, Ndlovu and Kevin Turner taking the score 4-2.

With Turner’s goal hitting the back on the net just two minutes before full time, the Vale were resigned to a defeat.

The under 21 team faired slightly better when they welcomed St Cadoc’s to Argyle Park for their latest match in the Under 21 League.

Anthony Pilkington and Fraser Forbes scored for the home side, but St Cadoc’s were also quick to find the net, adding two to their tally. The result forced the Vale to settle for a draw.

Both sides will be back in action this weekend, with the first team welcoming Lanark United to Milburn Park on league duty on Saturday.
