A below par performance from Accies coupled with a good display from Stenhousemuir left Accies with little room for complaint. It took just half an hour for Stenhousemuir to take the lead. A good move across the width of the park saw the ball reach Gary Baird. The shot looped over Accies keeper Andrew McGillivray and into the net. Accies frustrations grew when they were denied a penalty. William Brotton appeared to stumble and then drag the ball with his hand whilst on the floor. Referee David Gallacher’s view was blocked and couldn’t give the penalty. Accies best period of the match followed half time. Early opportunities came Andrew Burton’s way but both efforts were tame and easily saved. Accies efforts were rewarded through a Conor McGlinchey equaliser. A throw-in from Ian Davie to the forward saw him beat his marker and then slam the ball home. Just as Accies appeared to be in the ascendancy they conceded an entirely avoidable goal. The goal changed the pattern of the game as Stenhousemuir took control. Had Accies found an equaliser, the match would have gone straight to a penalty shootout but the chance of this ended with five minutes remaining as Stenhousemuir scored again.
