Wrangle over clinic site

Lennox Herald - - MEMORY LANE -

A last-gasp attempt was made to keep Alexandria medical centre in the town.

Health bosses were pushing for the new facility to replace the Bank Street clinics to be constructed within the grounds of theVale of Leven Hospital, a move which later went through.

But town centre traders put up a fight, saying the move would deliver a hammer blow to businesses.

Cordale Housing Association, a member of the Alexandria town centre regeneration forum, offered its help to resolve the issue, making a bid to buy a site within the grounds of theVale Hospital from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to build housing.

Cordale director Stephen Gibson said:“The former Kippen Dairy site has been identified as a key strategic site and an ideal location for the new medical centre.

“We would be interested in relocating the provision of housing to land designated within the hospital.

“The community health partnership could then use the capital receipt to purchase the former Kippen Dairy site.”

The centre opened in the grounds of theVale Hospital in 2013.
