Perfect tribute to Gary
A Helensburgh woman who set up a charity in memory of her husband has held a fundraising match in his honour.
Kelly Andrews commemorated the life of much-loved chef Gary, who died of lung cancer in 2013 whilst on holiday with Kelly and son Joshua.
She launched charitable trust Gary Andrews - Remember a Life - Lung Cancer Charity.
The Commodore Hotel in Helensburgh hosted an inaugural casino night, which was followed by a memorial football match at Ardenconnel Park in Rhu the following day.
Kelly said: “I really appreciate everyone who attended our first charity casino night. It was great fun for everyone, especially Rab McQueen, aged 85, who knew Gary as a young boy growing up in Garelochhead and so wanted to be part of the night. I was really touched he managed to come along and support our event in Gary’s memory.”
The couple’s son Joshua had been a member of Ardencaple FC since the age of five, and the club worked closely with the Andrews family to raise awareness and funds for lung cancer.
The match saw Ardencaple FC 2003s (captained by Josh) defeat a combined select team comprising players from Caple and Dumbarton United 2002s.
Leading up to kick-off, a large crowd was entertained to dancing routines by Donna’s Dazzlers followed by a touching ceremony when a mass of coloured balloons were released into the sky in celebration of Gary’s life.
