Pubs are a vital local community

Lennox Herald - - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR -

I know at times like this there are life or death issues to worry about, but I’m really concerned about the future of pubs in Dumbarton and the Vale.

Your story last week about the Burgh Bar is no doubt the case for pubs right across the area, and I for one would be gutted to see many of them not reopen after this crisis.

I know some people see them as a scourage, or some people might highlight the fact you can get drink cheaper in a supermarket, but that takes away from the very point of pubs in an area like this.

They are little communities, places for people to meet and make new friends, find someone to grumble about the weather or work with and put the world to rights.

If we were to lose that, especially in the local area where places like the Burgh Bar play a big role in the community, then it would be bad news.

We need somewhere to let our hair down, somewhere to rant and rave and somewhere there’s always a friendly face. We need our pubs.

Jackie McKay, Haldane.
