Christmas is coming! Oh yes it is. And people are already booking up for a few festive days away. Derek James opens the pages of the new Norfolk-based Grand UK Holidays brochure.
It’s time to be prepared
H o, ho, ho. Allow me to be the first to wish you a very merry Christmas. I can almost hear you groan. The sun is still shining, people are sitting on the beach and swimming in the sea. Summer has been lovely. Sometimes.
It’s about this time of the year that people tend to plan ahead to make sure they get the most out of the of the Christmas and New Year period.
Especially those living on their own.
“We have seen a great growth in the numbers booking festive breaks in recent years,” says Harold Burke, sales director at the over-55s specialist Grand UK in Norwich which has just unveiled a new, more user-friendly website and a new brochure.
“Our range of Christmas market tours, Turkey & Tinsel breaks and Christmas and New Year holidays are more popular than ever,” adds Harold.
“There is also an increasing number of solo travellers who may be widowed or have lost their travelling companion, and they really appreciate the fact that we don’t charge single supplements, and have lots of single rooms available,” he says.
And he made this important point: “Companionship is another key factor; solo travellers tell us they enjoy the company of our friendly tour managers and likeminded holidaymakers.”
Highlights of the new brochure include festive combos, which offer customers the chance to combine
a Christmas and New Year holiday in the UK, and pay just £20pp, per night on a half-board basis, for the nights in between.
There are also discounts for those who drive to the hotel, and ever-popular trips to the panto are included in many Christmas breaks.
Christmas holidays start at £ 359pp for a five-day hotel break in the UK, which includes coach travel, half-board accommodation, two sightseeing excursions and festive entertainment.
The brochure also includes the luxury, Grand UK Gold, with coaches offering extra-leg room and leather seats.
There is a seven-day Scottish Gold Christmas (£ 699pp) which is based at the four-star Stirling Highland Hotel, near Stirling Castle.
You can cruise the Rhine visiting the Norwich twin town of Koblenz or, closer to home, visit markets in Birmingham and see the famous Tattoo.
The new brochure features departures from September 2017 to May 2018 offering numerous holidays in the UK, river cruises in European escorted tours, special breaks for singles and entertainment events.
The company was set by local man Paul Bennett in 1983 with his life savings of £ 500. It now employs more than 450 people and handles bookings for around 100,000 holidaymakers a year.
