Jan Collingsworth’s first attempt at story writing was loved by the judges

Jan Collingsworth decided to write a story for the Let’s Talk Short Story 2018 competition, her first attempt at story-writing.

And the judges were so impressed by her work, that she was subsequently named as one of the two runners-up, winning a years’ free subscription to Let’s Talk.

“Four years ago, I took early retirement from teaching, having taught in primary schools in the Norwich area for just over 30 years.

“I now have more time for the things I enjoy, such as reading, sewing and, in particular, gardening. I have two lovely stepdaughters and a beautiful, fiveyear-old grand-daughter who keeps my husband and me on our toes!

“I work part time with people living with dementia, their families and carers. The inspiration for my story came from them and I hope it goes some way to giving people an insight into their world,” says Jan, of Aylsham, in Norfolk.

“As this is my first attempt at story-writing, to have come third is a big incentive to keep writing, she adds.
