WIT & WHIMSY

Living Etc - - DESIGN / PROJECT -

Overdosed on industrial chic and ready for a bit of light-hearted fun? Join the club – the current state of global, and local, uncertainty, is directing a new mood for nostalgia and escapism. ‘We’re seeing more and more playful patterns in textiles and pattern – Aparici’s Markham flamingo and parrot adorned tiles for example,’ says Louise Ashdown, showroom manager and head of design at West One Bathrooms. ‘The word whimsical conjures up images of fantasy and comfort and we’re seeing more bathroom designs inspired by the past. This trend is all about taking comfort from days gone by and creating a haven to escape from the seriousness of life.’ As a mostly private domain, the bathroom is a great place to experiment with pattern – seek out painterly or illustrative prints that nod to folklore, or trendy retro designs with a distinct sense of whimsy.

Project details Wall&deco’s specially glued and sealed wallpaper is designed for moisture-rich rooms and comes in a multitude of dreamy designs, including this vintage map-inspired Bonaire pattern by

Ines Porrino. Prices from £156 per sq m at West One Bathrooms.
