1 This year marks the 500th an­niver­sary of the coro­na­tion of François I, who ruled from 1515 to 1547. Un­der his reign, the Re­nais­sance move­ment flour­ished in France, and he re­mains the king best-known for his legacy of iconic châteaux, in­clud­ing the Château de Cham­bord and the Château de Fon­tainebleau, as well as his pa­tron­age of artist Leonardo da Vinci. To celebrate the 500th an­niver­sary there are events and ex­hi­bi­tions in a num­ber of Loire châteaux in­clud­ing an ex­hi­bi­tion of François’ ex­ten­sive li­brary of books at the Château Royal de Blois ( pic­tured above) run­ning un­til 18 Oc­to­ber. www.fran­cois1er.org
