Mean­ing ‘hen’, ‘ poule’ can also be used as a term of en­dear­ment: ‘ ma poule’ means ‘my chick’. ‘ La chair de poule’ is the French equiv­a­lent of goose­bumps, while if some­one asks how you are, re­ply­ing with ‘ Ça roule, ma poule!’, it is a bit like say­ing ‘ Ça va su­per bien’, but in a fa­mil­iar, cheeky tone.
