Carnaval de Nice

Living France - - DÉCOUVREZ -

One of the largest carnivals in the world is held every year in Nice; an event which can be traced back centuries to 1294. For more than two weeks, from 12-28 February, the city is a blaze of colour, music and dancing as the celebrations banish winter blues and get people looking forward to spring at the Carnaval de Nice ( pictured top right). This year, decorated floats inspired by the chosen theme – the King of Media – will make up the carnival processions which take place day and night. The carnival parade is accompanied by street theatre and music. nicecarnaval.com Bringing classical music to a wider audience is the aim of La Folle Journée, a festival held every year in La Cité Event Centre in Nantes, which this year will run from 3-7 February. The theme for this the festival’s 22nd year, is the rich diversity of nature. With individual concerts lasting no longer than 45 minutes, audiences are freed from the constraints of traditional concert-going and are encouraged to move between the recitals and engage the performers and conductors in conversation between performances. follejournee.fr
