Frap­per means ‘to hit or strike’, but can also mean ‘to chill’, as in le vin blanc frappé (chilled white wine). Frap­per à la porte means ‘to knock on the door’. In the fig­u­ra­tive sense, frap­per fort means ‘to make a strong im­pact/hit hard’.
