Happy ever after...

Living France - - EDITOR'S LETTER -

The Loire Valley is famed for its enchanting castles and these fairy-tale châteaux make this a truly magical part of France. But they aren’t the only reason why it’s so special, as Peter Stewart discovered during his visit. You can find out why he fell under the Loire Valley’s spell on page 18, and if you’re keen to be king of your own castle in this lovely corner of France you’ll find a selection of properties for sale to suit all budgets on page 26.

Perhaps you like the idea of living near a vineyard to really make the most of everything France has to offer? If so, you can sample a taste of life in three of the country’s famous winemaking regions on page 42. Or perhaps you’re looking for a French home with plenty of character, so how about a watermill? You’ll find our pick of six of the best mill properties on the market to whet your appetite on page 72.

Meanwhile on page 50, we explain the recent changes to the French regional boundaries and what they mean for life at a local level, while on page 76 our expert explains how to make a success of running a business when you move across the Channel.

As always there are lots of inspiring stories from expats who have already made the move, from the couple who started their own opera festival in Maine-et-Loire (p28) to two passionate gardeners who found the outside space they craved in Morbihan and have watched their idea for an edible garden grow into a flourishing business (p46).

We hope you enjoy the issue, and that the story of your own move to France has a very happy ending.
