Living France - - DÉCOUVREZ -

Be­ing a re­cently re­tired French teacher with a house in south­east Tarn, much like Dave Pep­per whose let­ter ap­peared in the Fe­bru­ary is­sue, we too have been there on 14 July. We al­ways drive to a par­tic­u­lar spot over­look­ing the fa­mous town of Car­cas­sonne, where we have a pic­nic and then, once dark­ness has fallen, we watch what has to be one of the best, and one of the long­est, fire­work dis­plays ever.

Be­fore re­tir­ing, I bought some of those mar­vel­lous post­cards avail­able in France with a mini DVD at­tached to them. I was then able to show my pupils films about the Cathar cas­tles in Tarn and the sur­round­ing area, Car­cas­sonne in­clud­ing the fire­works, and the Canal du Midi. Once I had shown them
