Every so often we come across a French property that knocks us for six. This month, Vicky Leigh falls for a villa with a sea view in Alpes-Maritimes
I’ve always been drawn to the Côte d’Azur, and I know I’m not the only one. After all, who wouldn’t be attracted by the promise of blue skies and seemingly endless sunshine, with a generous helping of glitz and glamour thrown in for good measure? Even the royals have been charmed by this southern corner of France – Queen Victoria became a frequent visitor to the French Riviera in the 19th century – and if it was good enough for her then it’s certainly good enough for me.
Built in 1903, this traditional villa in Théoule-sur-Mer boasts high ceilings throughout, which add to the feeling of grandeur and make the already spacious living accommodation seem all the more sizeable. There is a separate kitchen and dining room, as well as a lounge and a veranda, while upstairs there are four bedrooms.
There’s no shortage of outside space either in the form of a very pretty garden, and a sunny terrace boasting spectacular sea views. I’m sure I’d spend many a happy hour out
there enjoying the warmth of the sun with a good book, not to mention a chilled rosé – from Provence, naturally. You wouldn’t have far to go to enjoy a dip in the sea, but if you like the idea of swimming even closer to home then there’s enough space in the grounds to install a pool.
The glamorous resort of Cannes is just 25 minutes away and Nice airport can be reached in less than an hour, so something tells me I’d have a steady stream of visitors. I think I’d better stock up on the rosé. 3dfrenchproperty.co.uk
