Van Gogh was so inspired by the colours and landscapes of Provence that he produced over 200 paintings during his 15-month stay in Arles. The town’s associations with the artist still attract lots of tourists to the area, and the upcoming exhibition, Van Gogh in Provence: Modernising Tradition looks set to draw many more. Running from 14 May to 11 September in the Foundation Vincent van Gogh, the exhibition showcases 31 original paintings depicting some of the Impressionist painter’s most important still-life works that highlight his flair for putting a modern spin on traditional subjects. Spend a morning surveying these paintings in this refreshingly modern museum before taking a stroll around the historic town to see the sights that inspired its namesake. fondation-vincentvangogh-arles.org
